KARELIAN WOOD COMPANY INVESTS IN SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT
YOUNG STAND THINNINGS
Karelian Wood Company is increasingly emphasizing its sustainable forest management practices on their forest lease area in Kostomuksha region. With the aim to ensure both growth and quality of the local forests in the future, the company is scaling up the area of young stand thinnings.
The work is carried out manually with clearing saws and will give more work opportunities for local communities in the area. KWC is using the same kind of thinning models and practices that have been used in Scandinavia for decades. The company is closely working together with local forest authorities, environmental organisations, and other stakeholders to make young stand management commonly known and appreciated part of sustainable forestry in Russian Karelia.
